Hamilton Island, located in the heart of the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef is one of the most popular island resorts in Australia. Touching down on the island’s very own 2000 metre long jet air-strip you can be forgiven for thinking that you have been transported to some magical place unlike anything on mainland Australia.
With very few cars, luxury accommodation in abundance and an endless array of tours, cruises and activities, tropical Hamilton Island is a wonderful escape for many people from the ‘real world’.
Although Hamilton Island is not extremely large in size, the accommodation and activities are spread across the island’s hilly terrain, making getting around Hamilton Island on foot pretty hard going, especially in the humid summer months.
There is a network of Resort buses that continually lap the island’s main attractions offering a free ride to island guests. However, if you would prefer to explore the island in your own time and at your own pace you can hire a golf buggy to get around. The island is essentially a ‘car-free’ zone making the iconic Hamilton Island buggies the most convenient and common form of transport to explore the island.
Four seater buggies can be hired by the hour, half day, full day or week. You do require a current driver’s licence to rent a buggy but they are extremely easy and fun to operate.
Whether you visit the island for a few hours or a week, a golf buggy is certainly the best way to get around!
